Fad Diets Are Foolish
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on July 18, 2013
Fad diets will never disappear. By the time you finish reading this, a new fad diet will have hit the book shelves. But will this new diet be the answer to your weight loss concerns? Losing weight is really not all that difficult. You just need to reduce calories taken in or burn more calories with exercise. So why is it such a struggle for most people? One of the primary reasons is that DIET is seen as deprivation. Most of us do not want to restrict the foods we love. But by not watching our lifestyles, we deprive ourselves of good health. Fad diets will also cause us to restrict many of the food groups we need for good health.
When you are considering a new diet plan, consider the following points to insure the diet is nutritionally adequate.
– Does the diet supply at least 25 -35 grams of fiber daily?
-Does the diet contain a minimum of 5 servings of fruit and vegetables daily?
-Does the diet provide less than 300 mg cholesterol each day?
-Does the diet supply less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat daily?
-Is exercise part of the diet’s recommendations?
-Does the diet allow adequate carbohydrate for safe exercise?
– Does the diet specify the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and types of fat in the plan to insure it meets the Recommended Dietary Allowance?
