Scandinavian Protein Super Foods
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on September 22, 2014
The Mediterranean diet has been known for years as a good bet for good health.
Today, Nordic dietary choices are rivaling those of the Mediterranean.
Seafood including salmon, herring, and mackerel are a few of the popular choices. Scandinavians consume oily fish and find many creative ways of preparing and serving them. Fish is packed with the Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids that are known to reduce heart disease. They are also important for children’s brain development and eyesight. For those with dry eye syndrome, omega 3 fatty acids are prescribed to reduce the symptoms of the condition. Many Scandinavians consume mackerel fillets with tomato sauce on bread for breakfast or smoked salmon sandwiches or salmon salads for lunch daily. In addition to healthy amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids, these foods also have healthy amounts of selenium and iodine.
