Granny Smith Apples

When I think of Granny Smith apples I think of making apple pie with my Mom. The tartness of the apples was offset by the sugar and cinnamon. Loved it! Still do!
So, I was pleased to see the recent report from the journal Food Chemistry from scientists at Washington State University who found that the nondigestable compounds in apples, especially Granny Smith may prevent a variety of disorders associated with obesity. The tart Granny Smith apple with its high content nondigestible fiber benefited the gut by supporting growth of good bacteria.
All apples are good for you ( contain Vitamin C, A and folate) and since it’s apple season it’s the perfect time to enjoy apples or maybe take some time out from a busy schedule and make a good old fashion apple pie. In that case I recommend Granny Smith!
