Weight Loss Challenge Week 4: Watch Your Portions

in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on September 22, 2015

If your weight loss attempts are stalling, get out your measuring cups, measuring spoons, and food scale. It is very helpful to get out your measuring tools every few weeks to insure that you are not eating more than you think.

American portion sizes are out of control and are becoming a major contributor to weight gain and obesity in this country. Americans are being exposed to a serious case of “Portion Distortion.” Many fast-food restaurants offer portions that are from 2 to 8 times greater than portion size from years past.

The fast food industry found that by increasing portion sizes, they increase sales and attract new business. “Super size”, “Double Gulp”, “Hefty Portions”, and “Godzilla sizes” describe some of the menu items offered. A study by Pennsylvania State University showed that when portion sizes are increased, individuals tend to eat more. Surprisingly, the study also found that subjects did not feel any fuller after eating a larger portion than with a smaller one.
So, if you are struggling to lose weight, pay closer attention to the amount you are eating.
Watching the amount you are eating and keeping careful records of your intake will signal weight loss success!
