Watermelon Explodes

I was looking forward to my last watermelon before the cold weather arrives. With the cold, the price of watermelons goes up and the quantity goes down.

I came down to the kitchen this morning and found a sticky, wooden floor in front of my sink and dishwasher. I cleaned up the mess and then started to toast my whole wheat English muffin. As I put the muffin in, the toaster, I saw red, slime dripping down the counter and tile backsplash. I cleaned up that sticky mess and looked down at the bottom counter and saw more red slime. I cleaned that mess up too. Then put the watermelon into a plastic bag with the red slime dripping all over the kitchen floor again and the garage floor before it was placed in the garbage. And what a smell!
I am sharing this experience to see if anyone else has had the same experience. Please share your story. I have never had this happen before and have never heard it happen. Have you?
And a little bit of advice – ask your produce worker to cut your watermelon before you leave the store. It will save you a mess, time, and the awful smell of red slime.image1
