HOLIDAYS: WE’RE IN THE THICK OF THINGS

in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on December 14, 2015

Written by MS, RD, LD, CDE Monica Joyce: The average weight gain during the holidays is one to two pounds; but for some more. I am already weighing clients in who have gained a few pounds since Halloween!

They say say they are snacking more and exercising less. For some too much office candy piling up and others treats around the house and social events.

Here’s a few tips to avoid or minimize weight gain since it’s not too late.

1. Have a plan for snacking or eating out outside of your daily routine.

2. Try giving yourself a calorie allowance so you can include foods and beverages you like but will trade in something else in order to have them.

3. Use smaller plates when at a party and fill with low calorie items that can take the edge off your appetite, e.g vegetables, high fiber foods.

4. Have a drink quota. Alcohol particularly if mixed with sweetened beverages can be a killer to a diet plan.

5. Never skip meals; you guaranteed to overeat

6. Increase your exercise which may be counter intuitive since most individuals state they are too busy to exercise. Dump an exercise class that requires an hour of your time. Head outdoors and walk briskly for 30 minutes or if you have any exercise equipment at home now is the time to use it. Don’t be afraid to exercise more than once a time in short bouts.

7. Put your pedometer on and counts steps. Make sure you hit 10,000.
