After Halloween Chocolate Orgy
Post Halloween and leftover candy is just the beginning of indulging, that is if you have a sweet tooth. In fact this time of year there seems to be candy here, there and everywhere.
In a recent article called Death by Chocolate in the American Chemical Society we get some insight into how much is too much. These researchers found that LD50 of sugar-the lethal dose of a sugar that could kill half of the population in a test group of rats- is 13.5 grams per pound of body weight if eaten all at one time. That translates into eating about 5.4 pounds of sugar in one sitting for a person weighing about 180 lbs. You’d have to eat 262 fun size bars or 1,627 pieces of candy corn to approach this level of sugar intake.
Fortunately, even for those of us with a sweet tooth that’s a bit excessive. My rule is to half 1 fun-sized piece of candy daily until the Halloween candy is gone. That brings me right up to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
More later on how to deal with those sweets/calories. See Too Busy to Diet at Amazon.com for some tips to get you through the next 8 weeks.
