Weird Fruits
Have you seen fruits recently you have never seen before? If you are like me, I am finding more and more unusual, exotic, or just plain weird fruits in my local grocery store.
Our exposure to these new and crazy fruits is due to a number of reasons. One is that televised food shows are beginning to show these new food items and are beginning to demonstrate how to use them. More people are also traveling and being exposed to new foods that we formerly
never experienced. And today’s Americans are enjoying eating out in restaurants that incorporate more unusual foods.
Kiwi and mango are now typical fruits that many of us eat. For me, mango is one of my favorite fruits and one I search for at the store. In the past, mango and kiwi were seldom eaten. Never mind the fact that mango is the most commonly eaten fruit around the world.
Exotic fruits and vegetables still only represent 1 percent of all produce sales, but more and more Americans are beginning to experiment with these new tastes after they try them at restaurants, see them on television, and read about them in the media.
Chili peppers, a once uncommon vegetable, is now familiar to most Americans. In fact, salsa that incorporates chili peppers, has surpassed ketchup as the country’s most popular condiment.
During the next weeks, Too Busy to Diet will present a new weird fruit and recipes to give you an idea of new taste treats.
Make sure to look for them at your favorite grocery and let us know what you think.
