‘Tis the Season for Fitness Trackers
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on December 30, 2016
This time of year just about everyone I talk with is focused on good health by eating healthy and increasing their activity. Many have Fitness Trackers which offer accountability and motivation. I joined a study recently at work and received a Fitbit. I am finding it fun to track my steps and reach my goal. Those with a competitive spirit may even join small groups of individuals also using tracking devices and compete to see who gets the most steps in.
A recent study published in JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association) found that when comparing 2 groups of individuals (those with trackers and those without) that the trackers actually lost less weight that those that tracked their steps with activity monitors. Why? Not sure but dietitians and gym instructors thought that perhaps those who had activity monitors are aware of how many calories they burned and may compensate by eating more calories. Something to think about if tracking those steps!!
Happy New Year!!
