On-The-Go Snack Suggestions

Costco has a number of 100-calorie snack packs that will give you a quick pick-me-up. They include:
1) Nonni Thin Addictives that come in 3 varieties: Cranberry Almond, Cinnamon Raisin Almond, and Pistachio Almond. These thins are like biscottis and can be eaten with a hot cup of coffee or tea. Super delicious!
2) Brookside Dark Chocolate Covered Gogi with either raspberries, pomegranate, or blueberries
3) Blue Diamond Almonds
Another snack pack that can be bought in a number of grocery stores are Dole Banana Dippers that are banana slices dipped in chocolate.
All of these snacks contain 100 calories.
For those who love natural fruit, try fresh apples with a tablespoon of peanut butter or homemade applesauce that can be made in the microwave with 4 apples, 3/4 c. apple juice, and sprinkled with cinnamon. For those wanting a sweeter applesauce, add Splenda to taste. If you like your applesauce chunky, mash with a hand masher or fork. If you like it less chunky, put in a blender on low.
The packaged 100 calorie snacks will satisfy your sweet tooth. However, fresh fruit will allow a larger portion with lower calories. It is important to make sure that you restrict your snack to one, 100 calorie snack each. Teens and men get 150-200 calories each. If you have problems restricting the snack to one, place packs in a plastic container that you can keep in your car. Take out a snack for use at lunch or snack time.
Another great snack is our healthy trail mix recipe that can be found in our book, “Too Busy to Diet”.
