Back to School, Back to Packed Lunch
Kids are back to school and parents are back to packing lunch. Try buying a bento box to put together a healthy lunch. Bento boxes are the craze and no kid wants to be without one. Kids no longer like large sandwiches, so cut up smaller pieces of a sandwich and put in a bento box. Try Zulay bento boxes available at Amazon for a sturdy box that will keep your items separated and yummy.
What does a healthy lunch include?
1) Protein
Try hard-cooked eggs, low-fat lunch meats, tuna, hard-cooked eggs, low-fat lunch meat, hummus or beans.
2) Starch
Whole wheat bread, pita bread, tortillas, crackers, quinoa, or beans. Make sure you include 3 grams of fiber at each lunch each day to help meet children’s
fiber goal.
3) Fruit and Vegetables
Fresh fruit, or individual packs of canned or fresh fruit, or no sugar added fruit cups. Raw vegetables with a side of light salad dressing or hummus or add lettuce and tomato to a sandwich.
4) Dairy
Yogurt, low-fat cheese slices, cheese sticks, milk, or soy milk.
