Eating Healthy While Traveling

Throughout my endeavors I seemed to feel as if I had fallen off the healthy bandwagon, and chose to pick unhealthier options when dining out. It seems much easier to eat healthy when I make my own food and have a routine schedule. Healthy food is at my fingertips.
However, when traveling it seems difficult to have quick access to healthy foods. When I traveled to Orlando, Florida I made it a goal of mine to keep my healthy habits while I was away. I came to realize that having good nutrition while traveling was not as difficult as I made it out to be. When I set my mind to it, I was able to pick out healthy items and incorporate a workout routine into my vacation days. Here is an example of the food choices I found throughout my trip:
Continental breakfast I chose fresh berries and yogurt. For lunch, I chose a mixed green salad with corn, black beans, tomatoes, onion, and low fat cheese. Lastly for dinner, I had salmon with baked potato, spinach, and asparagus. One of my family’s favorite pool time snacks was fresh fruit with vanilla yogurt and a hummus platter with whole-wheat pita and veggies. As a family we noticed that when we opted for the healthier items we had more energy throughout the day.
I think that eating healthy while traveling can be difficult, but with a good knowledge and understanding of nutrition, we can pick out the healthier items on the menu and come to realize that they taste great too!
