Family Dinners
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on November 9, 2016
A recent study by Dr. Trofholz, researcher at the University of Minnesota found that families that eat dinner with the TV off usually eat less healthy food and enjoy meals less than those who leave the TV on. Video recordings analyzed the video recordings of 120 families that included children ages 6 to 12. Most families were low income or minority.
Families that didn’t watch TV ate significantly healthier foods. Those families that had the TV on but did not pay attention to it also ate more healthy foods than those who watched it. Finally, those who watched TV also ate more fast food for dinner. Dr. Trofholz says ” Families who see the family meal as a time to connect with and enjoy their families may be more likely to turn off the TV have a higher quality meal, and enjoy the meal more”. We couldn’t agree more.
