Green Coffee Extract (GCE) as a diet supplement
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on April 15, 2013
What is it? It is a supplement made from green unroasted coffee beans. It’s to available in a capsule or it can be added to beverages or chewing gum. It’s ingredients include caffeine and chlorogenic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant.
Green coffee is used because the roasting process of coffee beans reduces the chlorogenic acid levels.
What’s it used for? GCE is being promoted as a weight loss supplement. There are some studies that suggest it might reduce weight, lower blood sugars after meals and alter adipokine levels and fat distribution. Gastroenterology Research and Practice reviewed the research and says though the results were promising the studies are of poor quality and more rigorous trials are needed.
Until then losing weight by eating more and increasing activity is guaranteed to work.
