Michelle Obama- First Nutritionist or Secretary of Nutrition?
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on February 28, 2014
The fact that Michelle Obama picked child obesity as her main interest as the First Lady could have been good for dietitians and the Academy. But, my question is, what exactly has she done to promote dietitians or the Academy? Other than jumping around in classrooms, announcing My Plate, and today announcing the FDA changes to food labeling, what has she done to work collectively with the largest group of nutrition professionals in the world? Is it all about Michelle or is she a team player who works with the experts? I am asking because I have never seen her side by side with a nutritionist. And on today’s news the only qualification mentioned about her ability to announce the new labeling changes is that she is the mother of two children.
And did any of you see the State of the Union Address where Mr. Obama credited her single-handedly for reducing child obesity in the last 5 years. Yes, it was all Michelle’s work! She was working in the trenches educating obese children and their parents with what to do to lose weight.
I am wondering if the Supreme Court Justice spouses can become lawyers if they have two children. And can they also make Supreme Court decisions as their spouses sit in the background. Just wondering what everyone thinks? Just would love to have the Academy President making some of these announcements and giving the credit to the professionals doing the work. Or is just all about Michelle. Is she the “First Nutritionist” or the Secretary of Nutrition” . And is she elected or appointed. Just “FOOD” for thought.
