October is National Pizza Month. Pizza is perfect party food because it is quick, easy and a popular crowd pleaser. Pizza has many topping choices and these can make pizza very tasty. There are unique versions of pizzas within the United States as well as around the world. Originally, pizza had a long history from Greece and Italy, with a high prevalence in modern America. Some people may stay away from pizza as a meal, because they may have an unfounded fear of carbohydrates. But there are many carbohydrate benefits that help with energy, emotional happiness, and healthy digestion.
National Pizza Month was designated by Congress in 1987. People in the United States consume the equivalent of approximately about 23 pounds, or 46 slices every year. Pizza restaurants make up approximately 17% of all restaurants in America and making pizza is now a $30 billion industry. The most popular days for ordering pizza are Super Bowl Sunday, Halloween, and the day before Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The famous Roman historian Marcus Porcius Cato (234-149 B.C.) mentioned in his memoirs about “flat round of dough dressed with olive oil, herbs and honey baked on stones”.
