Warning: It’s Candy Time of Year!
in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on October 14, 2015
Written be RD, MS, CDE Monica Joyce: As we approach Halloween the candy seems to be appearing everywhere in our office. Well meaning patients and others like to drop of some sweets for the office staff. Those fun- sized candies seem pretty benign most days but pass by and garb one several times a day and the calories add up. Here are some stats from The International Journal of Obesity:
If candy is in a see-through container individuals ate 5.6 pieces; if in an opaque it was reduced to 3.1 pieces daily
Sit close to the candy dish and you’ll add 2.1
Add only 2 pieces daily of fun-sized candy without any exercise or change in diet and you can gain 7 pound each year.
So, best to have a plan of limiting candy to 1 or 2 pieces and increase your steps/activity or subtract the calories from your daily total.
