Watermelon Explosion

in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on October 30, 2015

I was happily awaiting cutting into the watermelon that I had purchased this week. I thought it was a good idea because as the winter approaches, the cost goes up and the supply goes down.
I walked into my kitchen this morning to find the wooden floor very sticky. I cleaned up the mess and put an English muffin,( yes whole wheat) into the toaster and the counter and tile were covered in a sticky, red slime. I cleaned up that mess and then found the same slime dripping down the kitchen cabinets. I then cleaned that up and found my watermelon as flat as a pancake on the counter surrounded with more red slime. I quickly put the watermelon into a plastic bag and brought it out to the garbage dripping it all over the floor again and all over the floor in the garage. WHAT A MESS? So, I am asking how many of you have had a watermelon EXPLODE? And why do you think it happened.?For those of you interested, I have included a link that describes the process and why it happens. And some advice for future watermelon buyers-ask the produce man to slice your watermelon before you bring it home. Not only will you save money, you will save the time cleaning up a horrible mess, and will not have to experience the disgusting smell that we had to deal with. Sure hope tomorrow is better. And yes, I am through with watermelon until next summer. Share your experiences with exploding watermelons and read :http://hubpages.com/food/Why-do-watermelons-crack-split-and-explodeimage1
