Weight Loss Supplements Risky

in The Too Busy to Diet Blog on January 3, 2015

Thinking about trying a weight loss drug? Think twice!

HealthDay News reports that about 20% of 3,000 Americans surveyed believed that the U.S Food and Drug Administration guarantees the safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter weight-loss supplements. About half polled who had used a supplement developed at least one symptom such as rapid heart rate, jitteriness, constipation/diarrhea, or dry mouth. Weight loss supplements can even cause liver failure and death as reported by Dr. Peter Cohen a physician at Harvard Medical School. Many people taking over the counter weight loss supplements are also taking other prescription medications putting them at risk for drug interactions if their physicians are not informed. Be aware that as many as two-thirds of weight-loss medications contain drugs that have been banned by the FDA.
