Understanding food terminology can be tricky. Words like organic, low-fat, natural, and wild, can sway our purchasing decisions. But do we know why? This article, published on US News, compares wild berries, salmon, and rice to their non-wild counterparts.
The article explains how wild foods are, in general, better for human health and the environment. For example, wild salmon are stronger and leaner fish because they live in streams and swim against the current. Farm-raised salmon have a higher fat content and eat only the foods provided by the farmer. Environmentally, it makes more sense to get salmon from the wild rather than creating an unnatural habitat for them.
